The art of not answering the question

Remember a few months back when BBC presenter Carrie Gracie was interviewing Lord George Foulkes about MPs’ expenses and he demanded to know how much she was paid? To everyone’s suprise, she admitted on air that her salary was £92,000.

What a shame that after she showed him hers, she didn’t ask to see his. For others have done a little digging into George Foulkes’s remuneration. No wonder the bully wasn’t too keen on answering her questions. A member of the Scottish Parliament and the House of Lords, “Two Jobs” Foulkes is doing very nicely for himself, thank you. As Herald Scotland reveals (they’ve dated the article with the wrong year), he has picked up around £100,000 in expenses for two years’ part-time attendance of the House of Lords alone.

Worth bearing in mind when you watch him spluttering with supposed indignation. He’s apparently a great chum of disgraced ex-Speaker Michael Martin. It figures.
