Zebra-cadabra

Not all Zebu stories make our blood boil. The “Happy Land Zoo” in Gaza is short of animals and it’s too expensive to smuggle any more through the tunnels, which is how they originally got their lion and two ostriches.

So they improvised and turned two donkeys into zebra lookalikes by painting them with black stripes. First they tried using henna, but that just washed off.

They settled on black hair dye, using masking tape to keep the stripes straight. Some have labelled the animals zonkeys. We prefer to think of them as zebrus.
