An out of house experience
THAT LETTER about “Sorry You Were Out” cards shoved through the letterbox by postmen who don’t even have the packages with them has kicked up a deservedly gritty storm.
It’s happened to us many times before, so it’s hard to believe that the Royal Mail management didn’t know about it. But then, they aren’t credited with being the sharpest tacks in the management drawer. If it turns out they didn’t know about something so prevalent, no wonder the service is so archaic and inefficient.
“If there any incidents of this happening, we need to know. We want to deal with this. We always promise to deliver all parcels and packets, as well as letters, to people’s homes. That’s absolutely our policy.”
Consumer Focus, the renamed, rebranded, rediculous Government watchdog snorted that it would be speaking to Postcomm and the Post Office about it.
For their part, the Royal Mail said that postmen found guilty of the practice would be sacked (no doubt precipitating another strike).
They advise that anybody receiving a fake “While You Were Out” should ring 08457 740740 in the vain hope that their package could be found before the strike.
We tried, but after an annoying cheerful “Hi, I’m Sarah” tried getting us to go to the website instead where she’d be happy to answer our questions, we were sent into voicemail sudoku and gave up.
